After freeing himself from the yoke of slavery, Dacien swore to himself never again to let anyone else control his life. He stands up for his ideals and when he has set himself a goal, he will do everything to achieve it.
Dacien sees it as his destiny to protect his fellow combatants from danger. Therefore, he trains many hours every day.
Experiencing adventures, traveling the world and discovering new things is his passion. Even if he has found a home for himself, he is always drawn out into the world.
Anyone who dares to accompany him on an adventure should know the area well for their own safety. Dacien's sense of direction is terrible and he has a great talent for getting lost.
Likewise, one should never meet him before he has eaten. If he is hungry, the quiet and patient Au Ra becomes an unbearable beast.

Social

Dacien allows very few to get close. As a result, he only has a very small circle of companions that he trusts.
His wife and friends mean everything to him. If someone asks him for help, he drops everything. He always has an open ear for problems and doesn't judge anyone.
Only this small circle knows that behind the grim expression, there is a Dacien who is often in a good mood and a little crazy. Especially when he gets tired or has had a drink, he becomes very weird, sometimes even silly. He has a very black, coarse sense of humor.

Background story

Dacien was born into the arms of loving parents and the Orl tribe.
From an early age, his father taught him how to use weapons in order to make a brave warrior out of his son.
Again and again he emphasized the importance of Dacien's responsibility as the future protector of the tribe. Hard training and the teachings of his father became an integral part of his everyday life.
When Dacien was seven summers old, the Orl fled from the Garlear. Their path led them to the Coerthas Highlands, where they met Ishgardian soldiers.
Tragically, there was a misconception that the unknown Au Ra were of Dravan origin. The orl were indiscriminately slaughtered in a massacre.
Thanks to the sacrifice of his parents, Dacien managed to escape.
After the incident he was captured by slave traders. Yoyolobo, the head of the gang, took a keen interest in the wild, angry Au Ra child.
The Lalafell tried to punish Dacien through torture and humiliation, but each time he was hurt, the Au Ra only seemed to gain in strength. He was permanently chained and had a mask around his mouth, which was meant to silence him. At night he was forced to sleep without clothes in an icy dungeon.
But the will of Dacien could not be broken. Yoyolobo liked this so much that he decided to pull Gil out of that willpower.
He had Dacien fight bare-handed beasts underground in an arena. And the onlookers' bets made the Lalafell rich.
Alnette Bausoix, a young Elezen slave, secretly tended to Dacien's wounds. Since he was silenced because of the mask, she also gave him his name.
As the years went by, Dacien's strength grew and Yoyolobo pitted him against increasingly powerful opponents in the arena.
A great affection grew between him and Alnette in that time. She risked everything to steal the keys to his chains so they could escape together.
But Yoyolobo caught the lovers and had Alnette executed in front of Dacien's eyes.
Guided by the excitement of his action, the Lalafell became careless and took a step too close to Dacien. Thus the Au Ra succeeded in putting the chains of his bondage around Yoyolobo's throat. Blind rage and hate were the last thing Lalafell saw before the cold chains slowly squeezed the life out of him. Any attempt to cry for help was stifled. He was alone in the freezing cell with his trophy that had made him rich and now brought him an agonizing death as the final gift.
After Dacien freed himself with the keys, he slew each and every one of Yoyolobo's followers with his hands until his thirst for revenge was finally quenched.
When he finally regained his freedom, Dacien wandered aimlessly for a long time, not knowing how to use it.
His journey ultimately led him to the Black Brush Station in Thanalan.
There he met an Au Ra, the adventuress Hikomo Kibagami.
Wild, short-tempered and full of adventure.
From her, Dacien learned about the Adventurers' Guild.
Hikomo rekindled an old fire in his blood that had almost entirely died out in his bondage. He finally wanted to get to know the world that had been withheld from him for so long.
On the same day he left for Ul'dah to become a member of the adventurers' guild.
Little did Dacien know that this would be the beginning of an incredibly long journey full of adventures.
Nor that Hikomo should play a major role in his life, and stealing a kiss from this woman was even more of a challenge than traveling to the end of the world.
